(prendere) LUCCIOLE PER LANTERNE

The expression '[to] mistake fireflies for lanterns' indicates the confusion of one thing with another. Between the real and the figurative, the outside and the inside, the natural and the technological, photography is a suitable means to stay on the margins, where things have begun to change but have not yet finished transforming. As a conceptual space, the margin embodies the tensions of the ambiguous; a threshold where traditionally binary ideas coexist, opening up a wide spectrum of possibilities. While addressing a variety of heterogeneous themes - ranging from landscape and architecture to confrontation with various forms of illness and personal experience - the works on display share a sense of strangeness and reflection on how we relate to and inhabit our natural margins.

The exhibition is the results of Set Up! Exhibition Test Workshop, during which eight artists worked on the design of a site-specific exhibition in the gallery space. The workshop is part of the annual programming of Show & Tell, directed by Benedetta Casagrande and Elena Vaninetti.
