Rottura di Superficie (Surface Break) places in relation artistic practices working with photography and other visual mediums to explore the concept of the photographic surface. Acting as a boundary between the object of investigation that the artist wants to capture and the image that results from this operation, the photographic surface becomes an increasingly blurred and undefined boundary. With the advent of digital technology, the contemporary image migrates from screen to screen, losing its corporeity to the point of almost disappearing; it becomes fluid, capable of establishing new relationships with other media such as sculpture and video.
Each of the works in the exhibition explores the theme of breaking the surface, which can take place through the dilation of the image towards sculptural forms - and thus with the appropriation of new surfaces of representation - or within the image itself with the aim of de-constructing certain narratives and creating new visual imagery.
