Faced with the challenges of the future and contemporary crises, the ALARUM! exhibition reflects on the role of fear. Understood as a natural alarm signal in the face of impending danger, fear is a fundamental defence mechanism for survival. ALARUM! is a collective reflection on how to address and deal with imminent crises (ecological, political and social), meditating on the role of images in shaping and defining contemporary societies. How can an image contribute to the creation and dissemination of alternative social narratives? Are such narratives, constructed through images, an efficient means to counter nationalist narratives? What are the limits and powers of images? On the occasion of Soft Power Palace: European Artist Convention, attended by independent curators and art collectives from different European countries, ALARUM! took shape as a public installation in the context of Berlin's Tiergarten park, through the works of 36 artists selected through an Open Call. An resized version of the exhibition has been put on display virtually on PhMuseum
